28 Weeks & 5 Days Pregnant… Just got H1N1 Vaccine…?

I had not recieved my flu shot, and my family members are catching the flu like crazy. I have been trying for over two weeks to find a physician to get my regular flu shot, and everywhere the vaccine is out, and the only one that was available today was the H1N1 Vaccine, and that was very limited for pregnant women and young children. The clinic was held at a baseball park and HUNDREDS of people were there, and there was quite a few moms to be’s.

Now I get home and researched this vaccine and now I am so scared I did the wrong thing. My OB told me get the shot, and the regular flu shot as well. I just want my baby and myself to be safe, I am in Southern Arizona, so its definite that the swine flu will hit hard here eventually.

Any other pregnant ladies get this shot???
Right after getting the H1N1 shot, my Aunt who is an RN, told me to get the H1N1 shot, because her 5 year old grand daughter is thought to have H1N1.
She is in Utah. I also need to take the Gestational Diabetes test again =( I got 130, and thats the cut off, so 50/50 I may have diabetes, if I get ill, I will just be so depressed, and its my LAST trimester I should be happy and preparing for my baby!!!! Thank You ALL for advice, support and opinions!

i hear ya. i haven’t got it yet but my dr is urging me to. i told her i was hearing so many bad things about it and she said "then you aren’t hearing anything from people who know." she said it is just as safe as the flu shot, just a different strain. i am sure you are fine!

Go to CVS or Walgreens or a local drug store that administers the shot. It is safe and the practitioners know what they are doing. So you won’t have to worry about someone not qualified to give it to you.

Be well.

I must say that at first i was very unsure of getting the shot i asked my Ob/Gyno yesterday at my appointment he said i should get it as i am in the high risk section!! i also asked him about them not testing the vaccine he told me not to worry its just like a few shot he was more detailed of course!! i also got a good friend to ask her mom who is a nurse and has been for 30 years she high suggested i get it as i am in the high risk section and where i live we have had lots of outbreaks and deaths and also the fact that i will be in the hospital when it will get worse!! i also plan on asking the midwife that runs my pre-natal class!!

Don’t panic what done is done. The N1H1 shot contains mercury which is not good for a baby. It contains the same mercury that they gave out in vaccines that we later discontinued due to autism cases.

The regular shot is ok for you but you didn’t know. Don’t stress for I think the contents of mercury in the N1H1 shot is not that great of an amount. You have to look at it as a catch 22. Don’t get the shot and risk loosing your baby due to complications of the swine flu or take take your chances with getting the shot.

gotta ask yourself which is worse…a little mercury…which is the just as "safe like the flu shot"…or the possiblity of death.

I suppose I am going to get the H1N1 shot…I don’t want anything to happen to the baby and our governement doesn’t feel mercury is harmful to kids or pregnant women…

Nor is high frutcouse corn syurp…..uh….

But, which is worse…I would say losing the baby. Ask your doc if you can find a flu shot which doesn’t contain perservatives.

Sorry, I researched it…but, if it makes you feel better the mercury is a preservative they use so the acutal virus will not kill you. And it’s theme-mercury…or something like that…goodle "flu shot mercury" and it will come up…but, we are in a high risk category.

You did the right thing…we’re high risk and it’s for the best. Baby needs us to keep going.

Good luck.

Add– In case you wondered the ammount it is .25mcg.

You sound just like me… I am 30.2 weeks with my 5th baby (3rd trimester)… I have had gestational diabetes since week 20 and I am on LOTS of insulin daily…

Yesterday my oldest son (7 y.o.) tested positive for H1N1… We are in Chicago and they are just starting to come out with the vaccine. None of my doctors have it yet, meaning my reg. Dr., my OB, or my specialist… and the kids pediatrician doesn’t have it either. So I was not able to get the shot however I now have to be on the antivirus Tamiflu, which is scaring me greatly, I would have MUCH rather had the shot… but I had no choice, I called both my OB and specialist and they both said you have to take it… there is no choice. So I am taking it, and cleaning like CRAZY, praying that my other 3 don’t get if from my 7 y.o, and praying I don’t get it… he is on day 4 and feeling better and so far no one else is having any signs… I don’t either, so we are just keeping our fingers crossed.
You did the right thing. My son was the first confirmed case in this class but the same day there were 6 kids missing all with signs of the flu… once someone has it… We do the best we can so don’t second judge yourself! You and the baby will be fine! :o )
