Can anyone cite any atrocities that were caused by religion?
1. Hitlers extermination of the Jews and the support and justification by the Catholic and Protestant churchs of Germany.
2. 9/11, Pentagon and World Trade centre bombings
3. 2005 London Subway and Bus bombings
4. Klu Klux Klan

5. Charles Manson and the Helter Skelter murders
6. The Crusades (obvious)
What else can you cite, anything that was caused by religion.
Okay the reason I put Charles Manson in was because that he convinved himself through Beetles songs and using bible passages that he was Jesus or something like that, and then his plant to murder rich white people. So you could say religion was a factor, since he wouldnt have had a basis for his plan without it.
And, Hitler would never have gotten as far as he did without religious support. All his speeches appealed to Christians in some way.
Yes, the atrocity of indoctrinating helpless children.

Parents telling their children that they will burn in hell if they don’t think a certain way.
Admittedly a less obvious form of atrocity, but one perpetrated on millions!

I could list some, but I could list some for atheists too.
Face it, there are bad people in EVERY group. If you want to know whether a group in of itself is wrong or not, look to the core principles.

i agree with you religion has caused alot of terror but
Hitler saw the jews and black people as sub human. It was not really based on their religion.
CHarles Manson killed and blamed it on black people so he could start a race war and then rule over the post war world.
The inquisition should be included. Over 50,000 people in europe were killed
EDIT
your wrong about manson he believed the beatles picked him for that mission
also Hitlers speechs appealed to GERMANS not christians. He was appealing to the German people

LOL.
Socrates stated that the motives of leadership were to sometimes use Religion as a front for the peoples, rather than disclosing other motives, especially in matters of war and taxing.
It is not as obvious as one might propose to claim that the crusades were of religious motives, only, by many of participants as they plundered and pillaged. Also, what was the status of the banking structures; at that time? Did not both religious establishments consider it an underground matter to accept an give loans; classifying it as unlawful usurious moneylending?

Jim Jones-1978-Founded a church called the Peoples Temple Christian Church Full Gospel. Its culminating act was the mass suicide of over 900 people by drinking poison.
This is where the phrase "don’t drink the kool-aid" comes from.

Don’t forget the Spanish Inquisition. Spanish missionaries also forced Native Americans in the new world to convert or else be burned at the stake.
